| HISTORY Tigre is only 32 km. from downtown. This spot in the north of Buenos Aires province is a piece of living history and nature. Colonization started here with the second foundation of Buenos Aires by Don Juan de Garay. The name of the district comes from an old story of jaguar hunters who were very famous and virtuous on there job. Then these territories were gradually occupied by farmers, who lived with their families from the land´s products. Tigre today is a destiny no one should miss. Beyond all activities that can be done here, other attraction is the Fruit Market. The port has three inner harbours. The first one is for tourism. In the central harbour is concentrated the store-motor boats which supply the inhabitants of the islands with the most varied products they could need. In the last harbour are unloaded the timbering ships full of poplar and willow trunks from the forested islands of the Delta. Here is also an open market with streets full of the colors of rustic weaves, furniture and accesories made in cane and willow, delicious sweets and honey, brilliant flowers, and all the variety of native fruit The Delta is the final part of the Paraná river were it flows into the Río de la Plata. It is divided among two provinces: Buenos Aires and Entre Ríos. It´s area in Buenos Aires is four times the size of the Capital and it is divided into sections: The 1st section belongs to Tigre, the 2nd and 3th sections to San Fernando districts and are the most poblational and touristic developed ones. These land pieces are called islands because they are surrounded by water courses, like natural rivers and streams and human made canals. It is one of the biggest natural areas close to such a big metropolitan city as it is Buenos Aires. It is unique in the planet because it is an active Delta or a growing youth one, its shores move forward approximately 250 feet per year on the Río la Plata. It is habitat of a great biodiversity and from `in danger´ species like the Marsh deer It has different wetlands environments of a very high worldwide conservation value. The UNESCO declare San Fernando´s insular area ( 2º and 3º section) as a Biosphere Reserve, protecting 90.000 has. of natural and cultural resources. EcoDelta Argentina is based on the
